Assistant Groundskeeper - Sporting Kansas City (Kansas City, MO)

Sporting Kansas City, MLS, is currently looking to fill the position of Assistant Groundskeeper at Swope Soccer Village in Kansas City, MO. The Assistant Groundskeeper will assist the Head Groundskeeper in all aspects of training center turf and grounds.

Job Description:

This is a full time position that works under the Head Groundskeeper at Swope Soccer Village and as needed at Sporting Park. Job duties will include but are not limited to: mowing, fertilization, edging, irrigation troubleshooting and repair, top dressing, aerating, painting, sodding, and record keeping. Groundskeeper will also be required to assist with events other than Sporting Kansas City home matches including football games, concerts, etc.

Job Requirements:

Candidates must be willing to work long hours including weekends and holidays, have the ability to repeatedly lift 75 lbs, and have a strong work ethic. 2- or 4-year Turf related degree and/or equivalent work experience is preferred. All candidates must possess a strong work ethic and have some experience with Microsoft Office.

Facility Operations/Security: Custodial/Housekeeping
Building Maintenance Engineer - Sporting Kansas City (Kansas City, KS)

The Building Maintenance Engineer is responsible for the overall building maintenance of all areas of the Sporting Park (internal and external), including overseeing, planning, organizing, and completing all building services activities. This position requires a strong background in painting, touch up painting, drywall repairs, and an eye for detail.  The position also requires someone who is skilled in the technical positions, such as plumbing, electrical, HVAC, etc. The Building Maintenance Engineer will work in collaboration with the Stadium Event Operations Department, when applicable.

Duties, Functions, and Responsibilities:

·         Ensures effective and efficient management, operations, and maintenance of Sporting Park and surrounding property.

·         Complies with and enforces safety and environmental requirements.

·         Communicates and trains staff on MSDS and OSHA standards and safety procedures.

·         Ensures quality service is delivered to patrons, vendors, suppliers, clients and fellow staff.

·         Performs sheetrock repairs and painting/touchup painting as needed.

·         Performs pool/hot tub maintenance.

·         Performs semi-skilled carpentry work in the construction of remodeling, such as wall demo, new wall construction, building shelving or other organizational mechanisms for work and storage spaces.

·         Inspects building and equipment for needed repair and maintenance.

·         Operates forklifts and other necessary building machinery and obtains/maintains all necessary safety certifications.

·         Operates drills, buffers, grinders, sanders, and other power tools

·         Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.

·         Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

·         Experience with HVAC, Building Engineering, Building Mechanical, Building Electrical is strongly recommended or closely related field or five (5) years of related experience in building or facility management.

·         Knowledge of carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and appliance repair.

·         Knowledge of building maintenance processes, practices, policies, and procedures.

·         Knowledge of safety regulations, policies, and procedures.

·         Ability to effectively communicate both oral and written.

·         Ability to create and maintain organized and orderly work and storage areas.

·         Ability to work flexible hours (nights and weekends) as needed for superior building services during events.

·         Ability to function in fast paced, high pressure environment.

·         Must possess a strong/honest work ethic.

Youth Development Intern - Fall 2015 - Sporting Kansas City (Kansas City, MO)

Sporting Kansas City is looking for confident, hard-working, and innovative college or graduate- level students who are interested in an opportunity to earn course credits toward the completion of their degree, while obtaining practical experience in the world of professional sports. We have redesigned our internship program to provide valued learning and training opportunities that can be applied throughout the sports industry, hands-on experience, and the chance to be immersed in the culture and brand of Sporting Kansas City.

We are currently looking for candidates interested in an internship with our youth soccer development program. The intern will be exposed to the various elements associated with Sporting Kansas City’s youth academy program, athletic partnership program and other youth soccer initiatives, such as soccer clinics and camps. The intern will also be introduced to the behind-the-scenes operations of Sporting Kansas City home games.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the youth development team by gathering research for potential member organizations in the Sporting Club Network
  • Assist with partner activation and fulfillment on game day and at events
  • Hold coaching and/or administrative roles at SKC’s youth-driven events, including, but not limited to, camps and clinics
  • Assist in youth development department’s communications, online presence, & digital media (i.e. social media, event recaps, & blog writing)
  • Assist in fulfillment of Sporting Club Network and Academy Affiliate partnership program
  • Support the youth development team with the preparation, production and data collection of mid-season & end-of-season recap reports
  • Help organize, promote, and facilitate soccer clinics, camps, coaching education, and other community-driven events
  • Support any projects, initiatives, and other administrative duties related to Sporting KC’s youth development department

REQUIREMENTS

  • At the time of the internship, have completed at least your sophomore year at a four-year accredited college institution or be enrolled in an accredited graduate program
  • Must provide proof that you will receive credit through the internship toward the completion of your degree
  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (based on 4.0 scale)
  • Available for home matches and other events throughout the internship session (primarily evenings and weekends)
  • Interest and experience in competitive sports is highly preferred
  • Soccer knowledge and skills necessary; coaching and/or playing experience highly preferred
