Position Summary

The Manager of Digital Content will serve as the primary generator and editor of the day-to-day editorial and feature content for soundersfc.com. The ideal candidate will have relevant writing and/or reporting experience, the ability to generate compelling story ideas and deliver content across multiple platforms on tight deadlines.

A passion for soccer and an aptitude to creatively articulate the game and its associated elements is expected, as is basic familiarity with Major League Soccer and its historic and contemporary storylines.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • As directed by the Director of Digital Media, provide features and the majority of news-related content for soundersfc.com

  • Provide regular entries about first team practices, games, roster moves and trade possibilities, including breaking news

  • In collaboration with the entire Digital Media team, help create weekly editorial plans for print, social media and video needs, as well as Matchday obligations

  • Assist in copy editing submissions from contributing staff and freelance writers, including Matchdays and S2 Matchdays

  • Regularly create engaging social media posts highlighting soundersfc.com content as well as club initiatives such as ticket sales, community events and corporate partnership activations

  • Assist with management and execution of the club’s social media channels, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat

  • Assist with content marketing idea generation, with focus on building the club brand and creating additional revenue opportunities for sponsors and partners

  • Provide on-camera or podcast duties, if applicable

  • Assist in conducting player and coach on-camera interviews at practices, games and special events (i.e. MLS SuperDraft)

  • Develop a strong professional relationship with players, broadcasters, media, soccer operations and front office personnel

  • Assist with the backend management of soundersfc.com including posting articles and videos, creating web pages, and more

  • Assist with organization and maintenance of digital media assets including photos and videos

  • Ensure consistency of tone, ‘voice’ and messaging throughout all content

  • Assist in tracking metrics for all content initiatives and report to the digital team to analyze and evaluate efforts

  • Other duties as assigned

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field – i.e. marketing, journalism, multimedia, communications etc.

  • 3-5 years’ experience managing, designing or developing content for high trafficked web property, plus at least 2 years of relevant writing or reporting experience required, ideally in major college or professional sports, preferably soccer

  • Strong writing background required, professional sports journalism experience preferred

  • Proficiency in MS Word, Adobe Creative Suite [Photoshop] and proven experience with a CMS and HTML 5 required

  • Proven ability to create innovative and engaging social media content

  • Proven ability to deliver fresh, creative content ideas and collaborate with an editorial team

  • Analytical, with an understanding and appetite for media analytics and placement metrics.

  • Organized with experience juggling multiple projects simultaneously and ability to meet and perform under tight deadlines, and to think and communicate clearly under pressure.

Manager of Marketing - Seattle Sounders FC (Seattle, WA)

The Marketing Manager is responsible for managing marketing programs, cross-channel campaigns, matchday initiatives, season-long programming and activations, events, and grassroots efforts. The ideal candidate will be able to identify, create and/or manage marketing programs/events that match the brand strategy of Sounders FC and help deliver manageable and tracked results.

The Marketing Manager will report to the Director of Marketing and will manage the Event Marketing Coordinator, as well as seasonal marketing interns as needed.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage the collaborative execution of major integrated marketing promotions 

  • Actively pursue, create and evaluate activations for the Sounders FC brand, determining program structures, impact and implementation process

  • Serve as the lead contact for merchandise efforts at the MLS/Fanatics and SFC/team level, approving assets and campaigns throughout the year to drive merchandise revenue

  • Create the S2 (USL team) marketing campaign each season, working closely with the sales department on sales goals and the game presentation department on other matchday initiatives

  • Serve as the marketing team lead on large, multi-department campaigns such as Season Kickoff, Playoffs, Jersey Launches and more  

  • Oversee The Ninety, a Sounders FC internal event venue and its related programming, staffing and strategy

  • Manage marketing efforts for the RAVE foundation, Rave Green Run and other programs

  • Lead the club’s large scale events including event site procurement, staff management, run of show, production, etc.

  • Help manage the marketing of the Sounders FC mobile app, driving new app downloads and awareness throughout the season

  • Build, sell, and maintain the Sounders FC Pub Partner Program identifying pubs/bars in target demographic areas and providing marketing collateral and event activations at each venue

  • Assist in research, analysis and implementation of grassroots marketing program to drive name capture and new fan acquisition

  • Work in partnership with multiple departments in the organization to drive ticket sales, corporate partnerships and promotions, extend the brand and build the strength of the overall fan experience

  • Other projects as assigned by the Director or VP of Marketing

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing or related major

  • 4+ years of marketing, agency or related experience required.  Sports and/or event experience preferred.

  • Track record of managing projects and programs on-time and on budget

  • Experience managing multi-channel campaigns across varied departments as well as managing large-scale, public facing events

  • Previous experience managing 1-2 staff members  

  • Ability to manage feedback and has a proactive approach towards improving areas of responsibility with a sense of enthusiasm and urgency

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines on a continual basis

  • Creative, enthusiastic, and idea-oriented

  • Spirit of teamwork, collaboration, and enthusiasm

  • Prior copy writing and creative design process experience preferred

Player Operations: Coach
Youth Camp Site Technical Director - Seattle Sounders FC (Seattle, WA)

SUMMARY:

Sounders FC Youth Camp Site Technical Director coaches will provide technical instruction and guidance to the camp coaches at the individual camp site they are supervising. 

The Technical Director will ensure the staff coaches are following the camp curriculum and methodology as it pertains to each specific age group.  The Technical Director will provide on field coaching education to the camp staff coaches and assist with exercise implementation.  

The Technical Director will be responsible for announcing and explaining the technical and tactical topic each day at camp to the camp participants.  The Technical Director will also provide operational support at the camp regarding check-in and out procedures, daily giveaways, camp setup, item distribution, customer service to parents, and provide an additional line of safety for the camp.

The Technical Director will be asked at times to provide coaching for various age groups and programs throughout the summer time.  Technical Directors will provide feedback to the camp directors regarding coaching performances, camp operations, and player talent.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Implementation of Sounders FC Curriculum and Methodology
• Supervises camp site coaches and implements Sounders FC curriculum, methodology and system organization 
• Coaching players in the u6 to u18 age range in accordance with Sounders curriculum and methodology
• Display a complete support of curriculum, methodology, and system organization at all times
• Ability to effectively carry out the curriculum and explain it to coaches

Operations
• Assist camp site manager with daily operations of camp
• Help sign children in and out of soccer camp
• Organize equipment each day
• Hand out prizes and awards
• Address the group on daily topic and activities

Customer Relationships
• Be cordial and respectful when dealing with parents, fellow coaches and camp participants
• Be a knowledgeable and positive ambassador for the Sounders
• First line of customer service for questions about camp operations, specifically technical aspects  
• Escalate any issues to camp directors

Safety
• Survey camp sites daily for potential hazards.  Escalate issues to Camp Directors.
• Implement all camp safety procedures and protocols and ensure that all camp site coaches follow safety procedures and protocols.  
• Keep the children under control and behaving in a manner to avoid injury

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• Premier level soccer playing experience required
• Professional playing experience preferred but not required 
• Premier level coaching experience for a minimum of 3 years
• Youth Soccer Director role experience preferred but not required
• Experience in childcare preferred but not required
• USSF “C” license required.  USSF “B” license or equivalent preferred, but not required

QUALIFICATIONS
• Must have strong leadership skills and ability to communicate effectively and clearly with coaching staff
• Must be extremely punctual and organized
• Must have in-depth knowledge of the game of soccer
• Must be able to effectively carry out the Sounders FC curriculum and explain it to coaches
• Demonstrated ability to teach techniques, tactics, physical and psychological components of soccer
• Demonstrated ability to inspire, motivate and educate youth players and youth coaching staff.
• Must be able to effectively carry out training sessions
• Must be able to move and transport various types of soccer equipment and lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
• Must pass a criminal background check

WORK ENVIRONMENT
• 95% of the work will be done in an outdoor environment. Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. 
• Must be able to work a minimum of 31 hours a week
• Must be available to work a minimum of 6 weeks between June 15 and September 1
• Must be able to provide your own transportation to local camp locations

Youth Soccer Camp Coach - Seattle Sounders FC (Seattle, WA)

JOB TITLE: Youth Soccer Camp Coach

DEPARTMENT: Youth Programs

REPORTS TO: Director of Soccer Programs

SUMMARY:

Sounders FC Youth Camp coaches will provide coaching instruction to kids ages 3 – 18 who have registered to participate in Sounders FC Summer Camps.

Coaches will be required to follow and teach the specific curriculum as it pertains to each individual topic of the day. Coaches will be responsible for being educated on the Sounders FC Summer Camp coaching curriculum and have an ability to teach the curriculum to children in every age group.  Coaching education will be provided at the mandatory and paid orienation day.

Youth Camp coaches are also responsible for the safety of the children at soccer camp. Each camp coach will be provided with a Sounders FC Coaching Handbook and is required to be up to date and familiar with all rules, regulations, and policies regarding child safety.

Coaches are to assist the site director of each camp location in the day to day operations of each camp site, that includes and is not limited to, setting up camp drills, sorting equipment, checking kids into camp, distributing awards, and handing out supplies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teaching the Curriculum
• Study and learn Sounders FC 2015 Summer Camp Curriculum
• Effectively carry out the lesson plans and teach the kids accordingly based on their age level

Safety
• Manage the kids at camp to keep them safe
• Keep an eye out for any dangerous opportunities at camp site
• Keep the children under control and behaving in a manner to avoid injury

Operations
• Assist site director in setting up camp and closing camp each day
• Help sign children in and out of soccer camp
• Organize equipment each day
• Hand out prizes and awards
• Keep kids under control while site director is addressing the group

Customer Relationships
• Be cordial and respectful when dealing with parents at camp
• Direct any and all complaints to the site director in a calm and respectful manner

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• Premier level soccer playing experience required
• College playing experience preferred but not required
• Experience in childcare preferred but not required
• Minimum “E” Coaching License or equivalent preferred but not required

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Must have strong leadership skills and ability to communicate effectively and clearly with children
• Must be very punctual
• Must have in-depth knowledge of the soccer so they can effectively teach it to beginners

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
• Must be able to effectively demonstrate soccer specific technical abilities
• Will be required to set up promotional material at youth camp locations
• Must be able to move and transport soccer various types of soccer equipment

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
• 95% of the work will be done in an outdoor environment
• Must be able to work a minimum of 18 hours a week
• Must be available to work a minimum of 6 weeks between June 16 and September 1
• Must be able to provide your own transportation to local camp locations
