Academy Intern - Fall 2017 - New York Red Bulls (Harrison, NJ)

The New York Red Bulls are one of 22 teams in Major League Soccer (MLS). They are one of the ten charter clubs of MLS, having competed in the league since its founding in 1996.   They currently play their home matches at Red Bull Arena (RBA) in Harrison, New Jersey. RBA, a state-of-the-art 25,000-seat stadium, is widely regarded as the top soccer-specific stadium in North America. POSITION SUMMARY:
 

This is an unpaid, for credit internship (proof that you will receive credit is required). The internship is designed to provided experience of working with the academy structure of the club. Candiates will learn how the academy operates and have responnsiblities to assits the department with a number of new intiatives.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

·         Scheduling - Working knowledge of how the online schedule works for training and games for all academy teams.

·         Travel - Undertanding of how to plan and coordinate travel for all academy teams.

·         Game Analysis - Undertanding of how to film, code and analysis games – the internship will provide training for the clubs game analysis sofware Game Breaker and online game sharing program Hudl.

·         Scouting – Understanding of how the academy uses video to scout potential players.

·         Game Day Operations – Working knowledge of how academy home games operate at the training facility.

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:

·         Position is well-suited for candidates seeking to gain further experience in sports management and operations

·         Model candidate will possess interest and background within soccer

·         Must be well-organized.

·         Ability to handle and complete multiple tasks in a timely manner

POSITION SUMMARY:
 

The Red Bull New York Ticket Operations department is seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of Ticket Operations Intern. Ability to work effectively with others and self-motivation are a few of the key characteristics required. Hours during the week and on game days are flexible. This is an unpaid, for credit internship (proof that you will receive credit is required).

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

·         Learn the main functions of Ticketmaster Archtics ticketing system to complete daily operations at Red Bull Arena. Consists of face-to-face interaction with patrons and Red Members for individual sales, customer service, and all other related ticket issues.

·         Communication with account representatives for distribution of tickets for the 2017-18 season, which includes season ticket packages, printing tickets, and group/individual ticket package mailing.

·         Generating ticket sales reports, and managing customer databases.

·         Working all events in the Box Office at Red Bull Arena.

·         Learn how to manage the seat inventory for all events. Includes reclassing of seats, delegating holds, and setting tickets for Account Manager, Will Call or regular mail on individuals’ accounts.

·         Creation and maintenance of promo codes for account representatives using Archtics, upon request.

·         Working with our cutting-edge ticket management systems (Ticketmaster & Fortress GB).

·         Customer demographic tracking and financial reporting.

·         Assisting our sales staff & finance team with support, research, projects and operation aid during game days.

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:

•      Experience: Knowledge of and/or enthusiasm for soccer, the New York Red Bulls/MLS, and professional sports a plus.

•      Attendance at all Red Bull Arena events is strongly encouraged (events are generally held on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday Evenings. There are some weekday events).

POSITION SUMMARY:

As a member of the box office staff, you will be the first point of contact with the public in their Red Bull Arena experience. This is a part-time position working event days at Red Bull Arena.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Required to perform the job):

  • Use Archtics Ticketmaster ticketing system, to sell tickets and provide exceptional customer service.
  • Accurately accept and apply payment to relevant orders and distribute proper change.
  • Assist customers at the Box Office Will Call windows and resolve any issues or problems.
  • Assist in management of lines outside of Box Office (answering questions as well as making sure fans are in the correct lines).
  • Answer questions regarding events, tickets, and schedules.
  • Maintain a secure working environment for cash and tickets.
  • Reconcile and balance cash box at end of shift with Box Office supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned.

SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

  • Prior cash handling and customer service experience.
  • Experience with ticketing systems preferred (e.g. Ticketmaster Archtics, etc)

·         Learn the ins and outs of service efforts for both marketing partners and premium services

·         Develop an understanding of how to manage client relationships by working with Account Managers, internal departments (sales, ad ops, content, video production, legal, design, development, and league operations) and when necessary directly with clients and agencies, to ensure successful implementation of programs

·         Learn how to use different programs such as Publishers and ShoFlo to track sponsor activation details including website banner ads placement, activation photos, emails blasts, LED signage, social media posts, etc

·         Learn to create event recaps and case studies for clients detailing the progress and success of their partnership program elements

·         Gain an understanding of how to generate and implement new activation ideas for prospective partners

Facility Operations/Security: Facility/Venue Management
Part-time Event Operations Staff - New York Red Bulls (Harrison, NJ)

POSITION PURPOSE:

The Event Operations Staff Program is designed to provide experience for individuals serious about pursuing a career in event and stadium operations.  The goal of the operations department is to provide Event Operations Staff with hands on experience in event operations at the premier destination for soccer in North America.  The Event Operations Staff schedule is driven primarily by the New York Red Bulls event schedule and remains flexible.  However, regular and consistent commitment to events throughout the regular MLS season is expected - March to November.

 
Event Operations Staff work directly with the Event Operations Manager during all events.  They also work closely with different New York Red Bulls and Red Bull Arena staff during the course of each event.  They are directly involved in the physical set-up of all event equipment, in-event logistics around Red Bull Arena, and breakdown of all activation space on event day.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

-          Perform stadium set-up, breakdown and logistics during events.

-          Provide operations and logistics support to various New York Red Bulls departments on event day.

-          Prepare event areas including but not limited to Locker Rooms, Player Tunnel, Team Benches, Arena Concourse and Plaza, The BULLevard and other activation zones, VIP Lobby and Hospitality Locations, Field Level, and other back of house locations.

-          Assist Red Bull Arena Operations will all aspects of stadium and event operations on event day.

-          Coordinate with other Red Bull New York departments to ensure successful event planning and execution (Event Marketing, Partnerships, Premium Services, Sales, Ticketing, Fan Services, Communications, Community Relations, Academy/Training Programs, and First Team Operations).

-          Assist other Red Bull Arena operations staff when support is required (Grounds, Facilities, Multimedia, Security, Cleaning, and IT)

-          Consistent season long event attendance is mandatory - March to November.

-          Attendance at marquee arena events and MLS Cup Playoff matches is mandatory. 

SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:

-          Individuals pursuing a career in Sport Management and event/stadium operations are preferred.

-          Must be able to multi-task and follow strict timelines.

-          Possess a strong work ethic, take a leadership approach, and is a self-starter.

-          Experienced in high stress, fast paced environments.

-          Succeed in a competitive team atmosphere.

-          Able to lift 30lbs, without strain.

-          Comfortable being active for extended periods of time. 

-          Must be able to commit to a significant portion of the event schedule at Red Bull Arena.

Player Operations: Coach
Youth Training Programs Coach - Red Bull New York (Harrison, NJ)

POSITION SUMMARY

The New York Red Bulls Youth Training Programs are currently looking to add experienced coaches to our player development staff. Positions are available within the following areas:

·         Community programs

·         Travel programs

·         Regional Development School (RDS)

Part-time positions are available in both NJ and NY including Westchester, NYC and Long Island. Coaches are eligible to receive up to a maximum of $1000 for out of state travel relocation expenses.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Required to perform the job)

·         Required to be available five (5) afternoons/evenings per week plus weekends.

·         Required to be available Tuesday and Thursday mornings for staff training workshops

·         Working hours will be approximately 20 to 30 hours per week, over an eight to nine month period. A full availability coach typically works 6-7 days per week from March – November. This included coaching, administration duties and educational workshop attendance.

·         A coach’s working week is comprised of on field coaching hours, administration duties and attendance at mandatory staff training workshops in the spring and fall seasons. Both elements are paid at an hourly rate.

·         Employment typically begins mid to late March and runs through to late November or August and runs through to late November. The exact start and end dates are based upon the needs of each youth partner club.

·         Coaches who commit to a full availability employment contract also receive preferential assignments to double camp programs (30 hours per week) plus Residential camps. Additionally, coaches will also receive priority in scheduling of winter hours.

·         Coach is guaranteed a minimum of 180 coaching hours in the spring and fall season plus a minimum of one (1) 15 hour camp per week of the summer.

·         Coaches who commit to a full availability employment contract also receive preferential assignments to double camp programs (30 hours per week) plus Residential camps. Additionally, coaches will also receive priority in scheduling of winter hours.

·         Required to attend a mandatory paid pre-season orientation event

SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

Candidates must also hold a valid driving license and have their own vehicle for transportation

Candidates must have a clean criminal record
Must have 3 years previous coaching experience
Hold a recognized coaching qualification
Be over the age of 18

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum of a USSF D license (2015+ USSF E license) or NSCAA National Diploma

International licenses are accepted including but not limited to a minimum of a FA Level 1
