Player Operations: Coach
Academy (U12) Head Coach and Assistant Head of Union Juniors - YSC Sports, Affiliate of Philadelphia Union (Wayne, PA)

OVERVIEW:

The Academy (U12) Head Coach is responsible for coaching and developing elite players in Union Youth Development with a focus on the U12 age group and team.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The Academy (U12) Head Coach is responsible for coaching the U12 team in consultation with the Academy Director and in accordance with Union Youth Development’s vision, values and philosophy.
  • The Academy (U12) Head Coach is responsible for developing and executing Union Juniors and YSC player development program coaching sessions in consultation with the Academy Director and/or Union Juniors Head.
  • Implementing the curriculum and technical methodology programming of the Academy teams and Union Juniors division as directed by the Academy Director and/or the Philadelphia Union Sporting Director.
  • Responsible for the management and coaching one of the U12 teams during training sessions and games.
  • Develop and prepare players in the Union Juniors division and for upper echelons of the Union Academy.
  • Empower the players to take ownership of their own development program and to make decisions regarding it.
  • Consult and collaborate with the Sports Science and Performance department to develop personal fitness programs, dietary plans and discuss injury reports.
  • Report and discuss talent in the age category with the Scouting Department.
  • Responsible for a clear communication with the Union Academy and Union Juniors coaching staff.
  • Coaching and/or assisting with other YSC programs, including, but not limited to, YSC’s player development program, YSC Camps and/or other soccer programs organized by the Club, as directed by the Philadelphia Union Academy Director and/or the Union Juniors Head.
  • Administration duties in relation to Union Juniors and Union Juniors programs, e.g. organizing tryouts for incoming birth years, training schedule communication with parents, etc.
  • Assisting in the curricular development for Union Juniors, Union Futures, and YSC Player Development Programs and Summer Camps.
  • Responsible for organizational duties for the Union Futures Program in conjunction with the Head of Union Juniors.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • The required coaching qualification, such as the USSF B license or higher.
  • A minimum of (3) years of experience as a coach within professional (youth) soccer.
  • Proven knowledge of the American soccer system.
  • Proven knowledge and experience of developing young athletes at elite level.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.

Responsible for Union Youth Development’s goalkeeping coaching program and ensuring, in liaison with the Academy Director and Academy youth coaches, that all Union Youth Development’s goalkeepers receive elite developmental training and coaching.

OVERVIEW:

YSC Academy, YSC Sports, YSC Sports Marketing and Union Youth Development are seeking a highly motivated individual to manage our digital marketing and graphic design needs. This position will require the applicant to work throughout multiple entities, such as our innovative soccer focused high school YSC Academy, the Philadelphia Union Academy, and our YSC Sports business division. The Digital Marketing Strategist will be tasked with communicating the story of these organizations as thought leaders within the sector across various mediums. The position will further require support of our business ventures at YSC Sports, including but not limited to youth soccer tournaments, adult leagues, and youth soccer supplemental training programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan and execute all web, SEO/SEM, marketing database, email, social media and display advertising campaigns
  • Design, build and maintain our social media presence
  • Provide leadership for digital campaigns and platforms, such as creating tracking reports, writing copy, developing relevant content to create a consistent tone and "look and feel" with all digital elements
  • Measure and report performance of all digital marketing campaigns, and assess against goals (ROI and KPIs)
  • Brainstorm new and creative growth strategies

The Philadelphia Union is looking for high-energy, motivated sellers to join our 50/50 raffle sales team for the 2016 season.  The mission of the Philadelphia Union Foundation is to provide opportunities for children through the power of relationships to offer transformational change in the areas of education, community, health, and recreation.  The Philadelphia Union Foundation is a registered 501c3.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Approach fans pre-game and in-game to explain the details of the 50/50 raffle program and to sell raffle tickets.
  • Accurately handle the sale and distribution of the tickets, following program requirements.
  • Answer questions fans may have about the program.
  • Turn in all cash and tickets to Coordinator several times throughout and at the end of game-day.
  • Hours: Arrive 2.0 hours pre-kick. Shift ends 20-30 minutes after the game ends.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent education
  • Prior experience handling cash
  • Ability to interact positively with large fan base
  • Must be detail oriented and have strong organizational skills

Sales & Marketing: Corporate Sponsorship Sales
Senior Vice President, Corporate Partnerships - Philadelphia Union (Chester, PA)

OVERVIEW:

This position reports to the Chief Business Officer with frequent interaction with Ownership as the senior sponsorship sales and management executive of an MLS Club.  This position oversees corporate sales and partnership marketing.  The overarching responsibility of this function is the generation of revenue, including the management, coordination, sale, and service of team’s core sponsorship inventory, including but not limited to:  broadcast, signage, digital, hospitality, print, client promotions, team IP rights, special events, CR programs, and new business development products.  This position is on the senior management team and will have extensive interface with multiple business units, departments, and vendors. 

The ideal candidate should possess at least five years of high level experience in a related field, such as Vice President of Corporate Marketing for a major league sports team or entertainment event production company/promoter or a Sales Manager role for a local TV or radio station.  The selected individual should also have sold sponsorship assets successfully in his/her past ideally for at least five years.  He/She must be very organized and enthusiastic about the game of soccer and its future, the market, MLS Club, sponsorship in general, relationship building, and potential business extensions that could be created in the future.

The successful candidate must have transcended the role of tactical selling to become much more of a strategic thinker to problem solve tactical issues of sales.  The ideal candidate will have had experience and success in selling a variety of sponsorship packages for a major league sports team, major event production company/promoter, or media broadcaster.  An individual with experience in different leagues and/or sports/entertainment settings is preferred. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop marketing programs to generate sales and service of all sponsorship inventory
  • Thought leader in strategic business development
  • Enact desired policies and strategies with CBO, while maintaining open two-way communication
  • Management of staff and overall corporate sales function and personal selling of sponsorships
  • Develop meaningful business relationships with existing and potential team partners
  • Recruit, hire, train and manage sales and services teams
  • Liaise with MLS league officials on key business matters
  • Represent the club at league meetings and other industry events
  • Oversee creation of sales and retention collateral

  • Give executive oversight of key vendor relations related to supporting and servicing team’s revenue generation, including but not limited to TV, radio, and print partners

  • Must possess strong consultative and analytical skills, solid understanding of media and packaging, and the ability to create effective plans and programs based upon experience and consumer data to drive sales.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; advanced degree a plus
  • Strong sales and sales management background in the area of major league team sports, large market sports media, and/or major events (10+ year of experience preferred) 
  • A minimum of 5 years supervisory experience with proven ability to lead, coach, manage, mentor and motivate a sales team
  • Superior presentation skills.  Easily presents in front of a group as well as in a more personal setting
  • Experience in creating detailed operation plans, pro forma statements and budgets

OVERVIEW:

The Vice President, Marketing will be responsible for planning, implementing and overseeing the execution of a strategic plan in the areas of marketing, digital, game entertainment, community relations, fan development, brand strategy and advertising.  Three key areas of focus are:  1) Developing and driving the brand strategy.  2) Increasing ticket sales through effective marketing, promotion and awareness.  3) Develop marketing platforms that can be monetized. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Marketing Strategy & Brand Development

  • Formulate and implement a detailed marketing strategy for the development of the Union brand.

  • Strategic planning of long?term marketing goals and advertising development including developing in?depth marketing research, action plans and matrix to measure progress/success.

  • Work closely with Partnership Marketing department to assist with the development of marketing platforms that can be monetized.

  • Create a Community Relations strategy which amplifies the brand in the Philadelphia market.

  • Develop a research plan to measure and monitor the Philadelphia Union brand locally and regionally.

Advertising & Branding

  • Drive single game ticket sales through effective marketing, advertising, and promotions.

  • Negotiate media buying trades and agreements.

  • Develop and nurture relationships with media partners.

  • Manage production of television, radio, print and multimedia spots and other advertising/promotional initiatives as required.

  • Manage the creation and production of all organizational materials including billboards, tickets, media guide, pocket schedule, etc.

  • Develop, implement and manage process for all uses of MLS Philadelphia marks internally or by third parties.

Event Marketing, Promotions & Game Entertainment

  • Develop first?class event presentation through careful and creative planning and management of events staff.

  • Develop and oversee game day presentation. Responsibilities include creation and execution of best in class Match Day experience with a focus on game day promotional themes, development of timeline and scripts, organization of pre-game, half-time and post-game promotions/events, and oversight of all in-game production elements (PA, music, live entertainment, video board, LED, audio, etc.).

  • Plan, create and implement promotional programs, events, and grassroots initiatives.

  • Develop other sponsorship and ticket promotions.

  • Strategic planning of long?term game entertainment development, budget projection and research to improve event atmosphere.

Digital and Broadcasting Responsibilities

  • Manage the Digital department.  Create world class content while growing site traffic.  Create and manage a content calendar.

  • Develop a digital media strategy which includes working across multiple departments for integrating social and mobile practices to drive revenue.

  • Oversee coordination of Philadelphia Union broadcast properties.

  • Track ratings and develop opportunities to cross?promote with broadcast properties.

  • As needed, assist in development of all broadcast partnerships, including regional TV and radio. Responsibilities include partnership fulfillment, coordination of commercial formats, trafficking of spots, promotional message integration, sponsor integration, and management of broadcast talent and production team.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in marketing, business or related field.  MBA Preferred. 

  • Experience in sports, entertainment, media, corporate marketing or related field.

  • Knowledge of effective brand and transactional marketing that drives awareness, consumer adoption, consumer retention and ultimately sales.

  • Experience in creating and executing new product launches.

  • Ability to think creatively when developing a program that will meet organizational marketing objectives.

  • In depth experience in e-marketing including database, social media, web, direct to consumer and web.
