Bethlehem Steel FC is looking for passionate and dedicated game day volunteers for the upcoming 2017 season. As part of Bethlehem Steel’s game day volunteers, you will get hands-on experience of how a professional soccer game runs and operates. This is also a great way to network with executives in the Sport Management industry! These volunteer hours can be counted towards school Industry Hours, community service hours, networking opportunities or sign up just for the love of game!

Volunteers assist in many different areas of a game ranging from Game Operations, Media & PR needs, Partnership Activation, Fan Engagement and much more. We look forward to having you with us for the 2017 season!

Internships: Any Internship
Box Office Intern (Fall 2017) - Philadelphia Union (Chester, PA)

Interns will be responsible for assisting the box office in day-to-day operations as well as front office operations and games and events support.  Internships with the Philadelphia Union will provide qualified interns with an assortment of valuable learning experiences.  Box office experience is a plus but is not required for this position. Interns will be trained on the Paciolan ticketing system and be exposed to various forms of fan services.  Interns will be asked to work some nights and weekends.  Applicants should be familiar with Microsoft Office and possess excellent written and oral communication skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Sell tickets to walk-up customers at the Talen Energy Stadium Box Office
  • Fulfill all internal and external ticket orders

  • Set up and breakdown will call

Digital Content Intern (Fall 2017) - Philadelphia Union (Chester, PA)

Do you dream of writing stories and content for the Philadelphia Union?  If you want to be featured on multiple Major League Soccer social platforms, then this is the internship for you!

As the Philadelphia Union Digital Content Intern, you will support the Digital Department. This internship offers the opportunity to learn and develop skills in digital communication and website maintenance on PhiladelphiaUnion.com and other MLS social media platforms. This internship reports directly to the Digital Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Produce 3-5 written content pieces a week
  • Contribute to the overall digital content strategy for the Club
  • Post Union related League content from MLSsoccer.com
  • Help create, manage, and execute digital content calendar
  • Assist in the maintenance & creation of ticket, partnership, community and fan web pages
  • Analyze digital performance data on PhiladelphiaUnion.com and social media platforms

QUALIFICATIONS:

Administration/General Management: Office Manager
Director, Operations - Philadelphia Union Academy (Wayne, PA)

The Director, Operations is responsible for all Union Academy day-to-day administrative, operational, player welfare, and logistical necessities. The Director, Operations should develop and maintain a strong working relationship with the Philadelphia Union Academy Director and YSC Academy staff and develop strong channels of communication fostering a transparent and efficient work environment. Further, this position will be tasked with liaising with Union Youth Development Director and staff and representing the Academy as the point-of-contact for non-technical items with the rest of the Philadelphia Union organization. The Director, Operations is in charge of all necessary communication with Academy staff, players and parents while coordinating all requisite logistics and paperwork for the organization. The Director, Operations will supervise and manage any employees dedicated to the operations and administration of the Philadelphia Union Academy and properly delegate duties to ensure departmental efficiency.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Administration:

  • Facilitate communication between technical staff and team(s), players, families, etc.
  • Produce and/or assist in PowerPoint presentations for Technical Staff outreach or internal coaches education programs
  • Develop opportunities to grow Union brand through Union Youth Development activity (e.g. Social Media)
  • Liaise with Philadelphia Union Youth Development staff focused on Pre-Academy, camps, and clinics to coordinate coaches’ schedules and to ensure integration throughout Union Youth operations
  • Schedule and provide necessary management for Union Academy parent meetings
  • Develop and update job descriptions for Philadelphia Union Academy staff and help manage candidate recruitment database and hiring efforts as directed by Philadelphia Union Academy Director

Logistics:

  • Planning and arranging all Philadelphia Union Academy team travel.
    • Coordinate with YSC Facility manager to ensure key training times are secured
    • Source and secure external facilities for training and games
    • Identify partnership opportunities to increase saving opportunities
  • Organize and facilitate team logistics during trips
    • Coordinating: hotel, meals, training, meetings, transportation
  • Organize and communicate a staff and coaches’ schedule and a calendar for dissemination throughout the organization
  • Organize and manage individual player and coach travel needs

Player & Competition:

  • Coordinate Philadelphia Union Youth Development selection & recruitment activities and reporting (player tracking, etc.)
  • Oversee effective and concise communication between Union and players, families
  • Coordinate player absence from YSC Academy school (for training camps/international duty/games)
  • Develop Player Service Supplier System coordinating elements such as nutrition, fitness, technical, etc.
  • Liaise with MLS, USSF, and FIFA in respect of competition rules and player regulations.
  • Liaise with US Soccer coordinating player registration, game schedules, etc.
    • Game Day:
      • Liaise with opponent administration
      • Gear and Apparel
      • Facilities
      • Referees

Integration:

  • Work closely with the Union Youth Development Director to ensure uniformity of processes and communication throughout the organization
  • Develop strategy and implement systems to ensure integrate the new Union Juniors Pre-Academy within the Union developmental pyramid
  • Act as the primary point-of-contact for the Union Academy for non-technical items for the rest of the Philadelphia Union organization

Technology:

  • Implement, maintain and improve Academy Administration Software (SAP)
  • Oversee Philadelphia Union Youth Development IT systems

Financial:

  • Develop and oversee (with YSC CFO) Philadelphia Union Academy budget for residency, travel, and administration
  • Develop a financial report system and protocol
  • Identify revenue generating and/or cost cutting opportunities while maintaining standards and quality

Apparel & Team Equipment:

  • Coordination of team apparel allocations from adidas and/or first team including development of apparel and equipment budget in conjunction with Union Academy Equipment Manager

Player Welfare:

  • Manage all issues relating to the Philadelphia Union Academy Residency Program
    • Manage budgets for each house and communication with house parents
    • Update Academy Director regularly on performance of house parents and any anticipated items requiring his or her attention
    • Liaise with YSC Academy pertaining to any items involving the residency program relating to the school
    • Develop and manage a Homestay Program to supplement the residency houses
  • Liaise with YSC Academy and foster a greater integration between the operations of Union Academy and YSC Academy
    • Develop a meeting schedule ensuring stakeholders in both organizations (Academy Director and Head of School) are informed on any questions requiring their attention or resolution
  • Provide a first point of contact and resolution for any and all Union Academy players and families for non-technical issues, and updating appropriate coaching staff and/or Academy Director as necessary

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Highly organized, task-oriented worker with managerial capabilities
  • Skilled and efficient communicator, both in written and oral capacities and in developed and maintained work processes
  • Experience managing a budget
  • 5-8+ years in a related field
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Experience in or knowledge of the soccer industry preferred

Event Operations Intern (Fall 2017) - Philadelphia Union (Chester, PA)

The Event Operations intern will be responsible for executing Philadelphia Union events including but not limited to: grassroots marketing events, corporate sponsor events, soccer schools and all Union home games. The ideal candidate is a confident, hard-working, and innovative college or graduate- level student who is interested in an opportunity to earn course credits toward the completion of their degree, while obtaining practical experience in the world of professional sports.  

We have redesigned our internship program to provide valued learning opportunities, hands-on experience, and the chance to have a direct impact on professional soccer here in Philadelphia. We are looking for candidates interested in the area of Game-Day and Event Operations.  Through this internship, the intern will be introduced to the behind-the-scenes operations of Tale Energy Stadiumprior to and during Philadelphia Union home games and other events, such as The U on Tour.  The start date for this position will be early to mid-August and continue through the end of the season. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Execute all grassroots marketing events including set up and breakdown
  • Assist in the promotion of Philadelphia Union events through collateral drops
  • Assist with additional promotional events as needed
  • Attend all College Brand Manager sessions

The Foundation/Community Relations Intern is responsible for assisting in all community outreach efforts and Philadelphia Union Foundation (PUF) projects. The Philadelphia Union view their Group Sales team as an integral part of selling out games.  Next season, the Union will be attacking from all angles, including off the field, in which we’ll be looking to do the same.  In this position, you’ll be calling on companies, schools, youth soccer, and much more.

 

THE X’S AND O’S

We’ll expect you to have a basic understanding of ticket sales coming in.  We’ll also expect you to be able to further your ticket sales craft during your time at the Union prior to making your next career jump.

You'll be making phone calls, emailing, and meeting face to face with Union group prospects to sell them group outings. You’ll develop and manage relationships while providing exemplary customer service. The majority of your time will be spent in the office but you may work various community and in-stadium events along with all of our 18+ Union home games.

 

MAIN DUTIES

1. Make 50+ phone calls per day to group prospects with a focus on generating group ticket sales
2. Manage relationships of a small existing book of business while prospecting for new sales
3. Be available to work up 18+ home games
4. Other duties as assigned

Manager, Digital - Philadelphia Union (Chester, PA)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Management

  • Oversee the overall content strategy and content calendar for the Philadelphia Union, with platform specific execution plans for social, web, video and email.
  • Assure Non-Union Events and Bethlehem Steel FC (Union’s USL Team) are being supported, promoted and executed properly through digital channels

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Sell Merchandise to fans and customers utilizing Point-Of-Sale (POS) registers

  • Accurately check-in and process new merchandise (count, hang, ticket, etc…)

The Team Coordinator is primarily responsible for facilitating the daily support and administration needs of Bethlehem Steel FC.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Administration of team operations and administrative requirements
  • Assist in preparation for preseason and in-season travel including flights, hotel accommodations, ground transportation and field acquisition
