College Ambassador - D.C. United (Washington, DC)

Ambassadors selected to participate in this program will gain hands on experience in sports marketing and sales through creating and executing unique on-campus programs, managing social media messages and attending sales meeting with D.C. United ticket sales representatives. This program will start August 8th and run for a total of eight weeks with a focus specifically on the organization’s “College Night” program taking place in the Fall on Wednesday, September 28th.

D.C. United is looking to hire College Ambassadors at the following colleges in the DMV area:

Educational Elements: 

Through the D.C. United College Brand Ambassador Program, participants will garner the necessary skills and real-world experience to pursue a career in sports marketing and sales. Interns will attend meetings with D.C. United front office employees, develop marketing strategies for their local campus communities and discover the analytics and financial return on investment for D.C. United’s “College Night” program. Interns will leave the program with relevant metrics to show real-world experience as they pursue full-time employment in the sports field.

Program Requirements: 

  • Attend College Ambassador program kickoff meeting
  • Join weekly ticket sales conference call to discuss best practices and strategies
  • Join meetings with assigned D.C. United ticket sales contact as needed
  • Plan and execute on-campus events at local college and universities

Management Structure:

  • Interns will report directly to D.C. United’ Group Sales Manager, James Armold
  • Account Executives, responsible for individual colleges will work closely with their school’s dedicated College Brand Ambassador Intern, including a weekly call or meeting

Incentive Structure:

Two students per school will be selected as College Brand Ambassadors.  D.C. United’s College Ambassadors will have the opportunity to reach financial incentives based upon certain sales thresholds through actively pushing the College Night program on individual campuses in the Washington D.C. region. The incentive will serve as increased motivation to meet sales goals for the September 28th game against the Columbus Crew.

Job Description:

This is a full-time position. Your primary focus will be on selling Minnesota United FC group ticket packages, but will also be selling season tickets and partial plans. Interns will work closely with the Operations Director, Manager and Coordinator in the daily operation of the club. Specific tasks will include event management, set-up/breakdown for all D.C. United home matches, office maintenance projects, and other event operations responsibilities.

Primary Responsibilities:

Duties will include assisting with event management, set-up/breakdown for all D.C. United home matches, office maintenance projects, and other event operations responsibilities. Duties will also include assisting in the maintenance of company vehicles, facility upkeep, equipment storage and inventory, as well as helping with the management of the D.C. United volunteer team made up of 90 volunteers.  Interns will also assist with the credentialing process, occasional first team operational needs, and management of other interns and event staff.

Interns will be expected to aid in the planning, logistics, and execution of employee training programs. Interns will also be expected to assist with game day hospitality planning and other related tasks as assigned.  Additionally, interns can expect to complete various tasks related to overall daily operation of the club, including event setup/breakdown and other logistical needs realted to D.C. United events at RFK Stadium and other locations in the surrounding area.

Requirements:

  • Candidates must be available to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Applicants available to commit full time are preferred, but part time candidates will also be considered.
  • Candidates should be very comfortable performing physical labor duties on a daily basis.
  • Previous experience in event management is ideal and a strong leadership background is a plus.

Summary:
