Sales & Marketing: Ticket Sales
Group Sales Account Executive - D.C. United (Washington, DC)

D.C. United seeks a motivated, competitive, and career-driven individual to sell group ticket packages. This person will run an ambitious schedule of meetings/appointments with local group decision makers with a significant level of related phone work to support and follow up from this activity. This individual should be familiar with the group sales process, have a relationship focused personality and a proven track record of selling group tickets in the sports industry. A minimum 2 years of successful group sales experience is required.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Reports daily to the Group Sales Manager
  • Generating new group sales through cold calling, outside appointments and stadium tours.
  • Prospecting new group sales opportunities through cold calling, referrals and networking events.
  • Setting meetings with key decision makers of community and corporate groups.
  • Developing professional relationships with current clients for group outing renewals and referral leads.
  • Providing a high level of service to all accounts.
  • Staffing ticket sales booths at outside functions including luncheons, business shows, conventions, etc.
  • Must meet all predetermined activity and sales goals.
  • Must have the ability to handle multiple projects.
  • Assist with other group duties as assigned.
  • Represents D.C. United in the most positive way on game days when interacting with clients and prospects at D.C. United sales tables or at their seats
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned by the Group Sales Manager

 

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Minimum of 2 years of sales experience (ideally with a sports franchise) with a proven track record in a high volume sales environment.
  • Relationship selling experience is a plus.
  • Position requires excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Competitive nature and a contagious, positive attitude.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills. Must be able to manage schedule to achieve daily and weekly goals for calls, appointments and sales.
  • Exceptional work ethic, strong desire to succeed, eagerness to learn, professionalism and a passion for the sports industry.
  • Willingness to work nights and weekends.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Internships: Any Internship
Intern - Community Relations (Summer 2014) - D.C. United (Washington, DC)

 

Position Overview:

Assist the D.C. United community relations department with running United’s community development efforts- including working on community programs, executing donations, managing the team’s fan mail, and more. Additionally, the Intern will help coordinate and execute programs and fundraising events for D.C. United’s non-profit arm, United for DC.  

 

 

Essential Duties:

Assist with Community Relations department programs and initiatives

  • Answer player and team fan mail.
  • Facilitate the team’s in-kind donation practice.
  • Assist in the coordination of our United Builds, United Drives, Good Sport and Community Stars initiatives.
  • Assist with game-day duties including managing various booths associated with the department’s initiatives and programs. 
  • May assist with scheduling and coordination of player appearances

Assist with United for DC programs and fundraisers

 

  • Help coordinate the charity’s various programs including: Kicks for Kids and United Reads.
  • Facilitate fundraising activities such as events and auctions.
  • Assist with charity’s social media, communications, and marketing.
  • Organize material for United Soccer Club coach’s training.
  • Assist with the coordination and implementation of United Soccer Club events, practices and games.
  • Make site visits to United Soccer Club practices
  • Fill in as United Soccer Club coach or referee (when necessary and appropriate).
  • Coordinate programmatic volunteers.

Provide administrative support for both respective job function and departmental needs

  • Organize and maintain departmental databases.
  • Research information and routine problem solving.
  • Reception coverage.
  • Mascot duties (when necessary and appropriate).
  • Assisting in any other areas as needed.

TIME COMMITTMENT: 20-30 hours/week, May - August 2014

Required Knowledge/Skills/Qualities:

  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently.
  • Strong writing and verbal communications skills.
  • Able to work weeknights, weekends and holidays.
  • Detail oriented with strong follow-up skills.
  • Applicants available to commit full-time are preferred, but part-time candidates will also be considered.

Intern - Ticket Sales (Summer 2014) - D.C. United (Washington, DC)

 

Internship Overview:

D.C. United sales interns will learn the inner workings of how to run a successful sports organization along with supporting the game day operations of a stadium. This position fulfills a variety of roles within the team’s ticket sales department. Support will be provided to group sales, season ticket sales, small package sales, customer service and the box office. 

 

 

 

 

Goals:

 

·         Show initiative to assist with Director of Sales, Sales Managers and Sales Representatives

·         Show initiative to create new revenue generating sales programs

·         Show initiative to improve sales procedures in the office

·         Assist in the daily operations of the D.C. United sales department

 

Work Plan:

 

  • Participate in sales training sessions
  • Learn how to organize, plan and sell group & season tickets
  • Manage ticket sales department inventory including giveaway and autographed items
  • Help with the preparation and execution of ticket sales events
  • Assist with all season ticket holder events as well as events that support ticket sales initiatives
  • Research and generate sales leads
  • Create and maintain spreadsheets, databases and other sales tools

Required Knowledge/Skills/Qualities:

  • Interns are expected to support the sales staff’s efforts in and out of the office during regular working hours.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently.
  • Able to work weeknights, weekends and holidays.
  • Junior/Senior (preferably) college students with a Sports Management or Business Administration major
  • Knowledge of basic computer programs is essential including but not limited to MS Office Suite (Excel, Powerpoint, etc.)
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to adapt to changing projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Applicants available to commit full-time are preferred but part-time cnadidates will also be considered.

Time commitment: 20-30 hours/week, May - August 2014
