Internships: Any Internship
Communications Internship - Fall/Winter 2016 - Chicago Fire Soccer Club (Bridgeview, IL)

The Chicago Fire Soccer Club is seeking a motivated individual to assist with daily media relations duties and game day media operations. This position is for an individual with exceptional written and verbal communications skills. The individual should possess strong time management skills and the ability to multitask.

Applicants should have a strong understanding of the Chicago Fire and Major League Soccer. 

This is an unpaid internship and is for college credit only. Proof that you are receiving credit is required. 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Compilation of daily Fire coverage
  • Assist in managing Social Media results
  • Management of Fire media distribution lists
  • Research for and write press releases and other Communications projects
  • Produce Fire related content for press releases and website
  • Participate in Communications department meetings and events
  • Assisting in all aspects of press box operations on game days including press box setup, managing Media Will Call, transcribing quotes and additional duties.

Required skills

  • Strong communication skills (writing and speaking)  
  • Written and oral Spanish language skills a plus
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work under deadlines
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Knowledge of MLS and the Chicago Fire preferable
  • Applicants must receive college credit for the internship.

Graphic Designer Intern - Fall 2016 - Chicago Fire Soccer Club (Bridgeview/Chicago, Il)

Expectations: The Intern Designer position for the Chicago Fire Soccer Club is responsible for any and all creative undertakings by the club across a variety of media including web, print, promotional items and stadium installation/environment. The intern will service all departments with any creative or design needs, from initial concepts to final production, execution and/or distribution. The Intern Designer is responsible for maintaining the visual integrity of the club as perceived by the market, and for strengthening brand presence within that market. He or she must demonstrate the ability to supply creative solutions on a daily basis to a variety of requested projects while remaining organized and on task. Internships are unpaid (except for $100/month transportation stipend) and available only to persons who will receive college or graduate level credit for their work. The Fire accepts a limited number of internships to ensure that interns gain valuable work experience.

Responsibilites:

  • Organize and manage multiple projects in various stages of progress
  • Formulate design concepts, presentations, templates, layouts, merchandise, installations and other collateral from initial idea to final execution
  • Create advertising campaigns that are followed across a variety of collateral
  • Develop understanding of target audience and market for specifically aimed marketing pieces
  • Present or pitch ideas, briefs, and concepts to various parties, in and out of house
  • Prioritize and filter work load coming from all departments through a design request form system
  • Design advertisements, print materials, still digital imaging and web graphics
  • Meet all advertising and print deadlines
  • Contribute to the invention and implementation of marketing/communications initiatives

Requirements

  • Applicants MUST receive college credit for the internship
  • Practice a professional attitude when working with outside sources (ie. publications, print partners, creative agencies, vendors)
  • Develop good rapport with other members of the Marketing Department
  • Maintain an approachable persona as well as organized and respectful communication with all other departments
  • Work closely with the Graphic Designer to ensure a cohesive message and look across all design projects and materials
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Programs, HTML a plus
  • Strong understanding of soccer culture and market preferred
  • Must have reliable transportation

Player Operations: Coach
Little Sparks Part-Time Coach - YESsoccer, on behalf of Chicago Fire Soccer In The Community (Chicago, IL)

YESsoccer, on behalf of Chicago Fire Soccer In The Community, is looking for enthusiastic, certified part-time soccer coaches to deliver instruction on its Little Sparks (2-5 year olds) and Soccer School (6-16 year olds) programs in the Chicagoland area.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Providing a fun and engaging environment that is optimal for children’s development in the game of soccer
  • Represent the Chicago Fire Soccer Club in a positive and professional manner
  • Track attendance of participants at each program
  • Answer questions concerning current or future programs offered by Soccer In The Community
  • Promotion of future and current programs
  • Attend all required coaches’ trainings and/or meeting

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a USSF F License (for Little Sparks) and USSF E License (for Soccer Schools)
  • Working on or obtained a Bachler’s degree from an accredited college university
  • High school or college playing experience required
  • Experience working with children is strongly preferred
  • Must have reliable transportation and a valid, clean driver’s license (some locations are not accessible via public transportation)
  • Willingness to obtain further coaching qualifications
  • Background check will be required
