Grassroots Marketing Internship Program - Columbus Crew (Columbus, OH)

Are you outgoing, energetic, and innovative? The Columbus Crew is searching for individuals to serve as ambassadors for the Crew’s Street Team and grassroots marketing initiatives. Street Team ambassadors will be responsible for facilitating the Crew’s grassroots marketing efforts throughout Ohio. This position provides a variety of sports-marketing related learning experiences, specifically in lead generation, event production, ticket sales and promotions, and fan development.

Reports to: Fan Development Coordinator and Outside Sales Manager, and also works directly with the Sr. Marketing and Advertising Manager, Sr. Director of Marketing and Promotions.

Grassroots Responsibilities:
• Serve as the Crew ambassador at events throughout Ohio
• Help educate event goers on the Columbus Crew organization, their ticket offers and the promotional opportunities the Crew provides
• Aid in the growth of the Crew database by capturing data on event goers
• Provide a fun, entertaining, and positive experience by interacting and engaging with event goers
• Research new opportunities allowing the organization to further integrate the Crew brand throughout Ohio

Match-Day Responsibilities:
• Assist the Crew front office staff in providing guests with an exceptional experience while visiting Crew Stadium
• Interact with Crew Stadium guests and aid in the Crew’s data capture efforts in order to build the Crew database
• Work with the sales department to provide a positive atmosphere for large group outings, and educate guests on various upcoming Columbus Crew matches and offers

Qualifications Required:
• Flexible schedule with the expectation of working nights, weekends and holidays throughout the remainder of 2014 MLS season (August-November)
• Must be detail-oriented and able to complete tasks without direct supervision
• Must be able to provide his/her own transportation to and from Crew matches, and some events
• Knowledge of the Columbus Crew and Major League Soccer preferred but not required.

Sales & Marketing: Ticket Sales
Sales Development Program - Columbus Crew (Columbus, OH)

The Program:

The Columbus Crew is looking for young business professionals and recent college graduates who are passionate, energetic and competitive. The program will culminate with a Sales Training Forum where trainees will take part in an innovative sales training and job interview process with the opportunity to earn a position on the Columbus Crew’s Sales Team.

Success Rate:

The Sales Development Program has resulted in eight Outside Sales hires, one Season Ticket Account Executive and one Client Service Coordinator in the last year.

What Takes Place:

The trainees begin by participating in a sales training course, where they are provided best practices across both the MLS and all of professional sports. They are then provided hands on experience selling for the Columbus Crew. Trainees will be responsible for selling premium inventory, season tickets, mini-plans and group tickets. Each week, training is also provided by program leadership, including but not limited to individual sales assessments, role playing, improve comedy and feedback from senior-level Crew Ticket Sales executives.

Is This You?

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college (or expected in the next 6 months)
• Ability to participate in the entire 10 week program (Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 6pm-8pm)

Job Description/Requirements:

  • Secure new team corporate partnerships through prospecting of local, regional and national companies
  • Generate team and stadium revenue through sales of signage, electronic and print media, in-stadium events and promotions, community and charitable assets and hospitality elements
  • Aggressively build new relationships in sponsor categories to meet monthly, quarterly and annual sales goals
  • Develop new creative and integrated programs and inventory to attract corporate partners and to separate us from others in the marketplace
  • Maximize team relationships through full development and exploration of assigned accounts and categories
  • Utilize existing local, regional & national corporate & community contacts to establish new team partnerships
  • Maintain high level of customer service and relationship building
  • Utilize team partnerships to further develop team’s fan base and marketing messages

  • Bachelor’s degree

The Columbus Crew Client Services/Ticket Sales internship is designed to give college students the opportunity to develop valuable skills and gain firsthand experience in the professional sports industry. The intern will learn all aspects of the coordination and administration of Ticket Sales, Fan Service, Ticket Operations, Grassroots Event Operations and Game Day Operations. The Columbus Crew is currently recruiting an intern in our Youth Development Department. This intern will mainly focus on helping our youth development programs and pyramid including our Crew Soccer Academy, Crew Juniors and Crew Camp programming. Applicant should have strong time management skills as well as the ability to multi-task. This position will work within the Youth Development Department, but will also interact with all other departments within the organization



Assist in all areas of the Youth Development Department

Assist in preparation, marketing and execution of Youth Programming

Some clerical work including filing, data entry and copying

Working knowledge of Microsoft office suite

Working home matches and other events at Crew Stadium



Candidate should be customer service orientated, well-organized, enthusiastic, focused, creative, goal orientated and committed to the growth and success of the Crew. Candidates must have a high degree of professionalism when interacting with internal and external audiences. It is also vital to possess an outgoing personality with excellent communication and organizational skills. Must have some knowledge and experience in soccer. College students; can earn college credit for this opportunity. The ideal candidate will be able to spend 15 - 20 hours a week in the office, have flexible nights and weekends, and willing to commit to 6-9 months of internship.
