Chicago Fire Rec Soccer (CFRS) is looking for a creative, hard working, individual who is interested in joining the Fire family. Our department organizes and coordinates adult recreational soccer leagues for coed and men's teams. The intern will be expected to work some nights and weekends (about 25 hours/week).

CFRS is the largest adult rec soccer provider in Chicago. Our home - The PrivateBank Fire Pitch - is the premier soccer facility in the city. As we grow, we're looking for driven young professionals to join our team. Let us know if that sounds like you!

Communications Internship - Fall/Winter 2016 - Chicago Fire Soccer Club (Bridgeview, IL)

The Chicago Fire Soccer Club is seeking a motivated individual to assist with daily media relations duties and game day media operations. This position is for an individual with exceptional written and verbal communications skills. The individual should possess strong time management skills and the ability to multitask.

Applicants should have a strong understanding of the Chicago Fire and Major League Soccer. 

This is an unpaid internship and is for college credit only. Proof that you are receiving credit is required. 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Compilation of daily Fire coverage
  • Assist in managing Social Media results
  • Management of Fire media distribution lists
  • Research for and write press releases and other Communications projects
  • Produce Fire related content for press releases and website
  • Participate in Communications department meetings and events
  • Assisting in all aspects of press box operations on game days including press box setup, managing Media Will Call, transcribing quotes and additional duties.

Required skills

HOURS:                                 20-29 HOURS PER WEEK, FLEXIBLE

The Data Scientist is responsible for executing statistical analyses and forecast modeling. This person will assist in the procurement, storage, analysis, and presentation of sports-related data, both independently and under the direction of the Sporting Director. This position will support the team’s analytical capabilities with an innovative, enthusiastic, and process-driven approach. Reliability and flexibility are key traits needed for this position.

 

MINIMUM RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Daily application of analytical skills, including an understanding of how to interpret team needs and translate them into statistical analyses.

  • Daily application and evaluation of advanced statistics and knowledge of common statistical resources, both public and proprietary.

  • Daily execution of moderate-to-advanced statistical modeling and programming.

  • Execution of basic-to-moderate SQL programming several times per week.

  • Daily work in Microsoft Office applications: Excel (including Pivot Tables), Word, PowerPoint.

  • Execution of basic-to-moderate development within analytics visualization packages.

  • Creation and maintenance of statistical models, data models, tools, reports, and reference documents to support the on-going analytics needs of the scouting, coaching & management staff

  • Perform ad hoc data mining on large volumes of sports-related data as requests arise, via SQL, Excel, or other statistical tools, under the direction of senior analytics staff

  • Support the development and implementation of sports studies, related to both pro and amateur personnel, under the direction of both front office staff and senior analytics staff

  • Help build and maintain an electronic catalog of completed and ongoing analytics documents, references, tools, and studies

  • Support Sports Operations staff with data extracts and batch data imports, as needed

  • Daily and periodic cleaning, maintenance, updating, and management of team statistical databases, including but not limited to:

    • Professional and amateur sports statistics

    • Player personnel databases

  • Other responsibilities as needed.

     

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree from accredited university in Statistics, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Finance, Operations Research, Actuarial Sciences, Information Technology, or related field.

  • Some experience working with a collegiate or professional sports team or sports-focused organization is preferred; or 2+ years’ experience as a financial/business analyst, marketing analyst, market researcher, or similar role.

  • 2+ years’ experience working with a statistics-oriented programming language such as R, SAS, Python, SPSS, Matlab. 

  • Experience with advanced statistical analysis techniques (e.g., regression/modeling, hypothesis testing, categorical data analysis), data visualization, a moderate understanding of database design and data collection, and especially advanced sports analytics and their construction.

  • Demonstrated moderate-to-advanced knowledge, skill, and expertise in Microsoft Excel (including Pivot Tables). Demonstrated moderate knowledge, skill, and expertise in other Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Access, and PowerPoint.

  • Strong organizational skills, with a robust attention to detail, in regards both to checking and working with data, as well as visual presentation of deliverables and reports.

  • Experience with computer programming concepts, algorithms, and syntax; particularly in SQL, or other programming languages combined with an eagerness to learn SQL.

  • A working knowledge of the MLS and the rules & regulations of the leagues is required.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate with staff possessing varying levels of quantitative background, including management, coaches, medical staff, and athletes.

Columbus Crew SC Overview

Columbus Crew SC (Soccer Club) is the first club in Major League Soccer and in 2015, Crew SC was crowned MLS Eastern Conference Champions in the organization’s 20th season. Owned and operated by Precourt Sports Ventures (PSV), it won its first MLS Cup championship in 2008 and also won the 2002 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup as well as MLS Supporters’ Shield titles in 2004, 2008 and 2009. The 2016 campaign is the Black & Gold’s 18th season at historic MAPFRE Stadium -- the first soccer-specific stadium in the United States – where the club set single-season sellout records and hosted the 2015 MLS Cup. The club was purchased by PSV on July 29, 2013 as part of the privately held investment and management firm’s sports and entertainment business enterprise.

Description

Columbus Crew SC is offering a Database and Analytics Internship designed to offer experience in reviewing and analyzing data within our Sales & Marketing Department.

The Fall 2016 Database and Analytics Internship is available for students actively pursuing education and academic credit may be available. The internship requires approximately 15-20 hours per week at MAPFRE Stadium and collaborates closely with theManager of CRM & Analytics.

Opportunities & Responsibilities

·         Assist the Sales department with lead generation and tracking

·         Assist with email marketing efforts throughout the organization including weekly email marketing performance reports, audience analysis among others

·         Assist in support in the areas of email marketing, database marketing, database management, market research, website analytics and sales analytics

·         Support market research efforts through survey creation, analysis and presentation of findings

Required skills, experience & abilities

·         Must be an active college student with a minimum 3.0 GPA

·         Proficient in Microsoft Excel

·         Basic understanding of direct marketing and sales including direct mail, outbound telemarketing and email marketing

Intern - Equipment Manager (Late Summer - End of Season) - D.C. United (Washington, DC)

D.C. United is seeking a highly motivated candidate to take on the role of Equipment Manager Intern starting late summer until the end of the season.  The candidate will assist the Head and Assistant Equipment Manager with all team and technical staff equipment duties.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Manage, inventory, and account for all team equipment usage
  • Setup and breakdown of training equipment and field
  • Distribution and laundering of all team training and game gear
  • Packing of equipment for away games/travel

Education/Experience:

  • College degree/in process in a related field preferred, but not required
  • Prior experience in the field of equipment management, whether professional or at the collegiate level, preferred, but not required.
  • Knowledge of soccer is preferred but not required.
  • A candidate that is fluent in both English and Spanish is preferred

Compensation and Hours:

  • This is an unpaid internship, however, the candidate has a chance for reimbursement for home games. 
  • The candidate will need to be available to work a varying schedule including evenings and weekends
  • There may be the possibility of travel to close/local games/practices

Intern - Sales & Service (Fall 2016) - D.C. United (Washington, DC)

Internship Overview:

The D.C. United Ticket Sales & Service team is looking for talented undergraduate and graduate students aspiring to enter the sports industry to join us as interns for the Fall 2016 Season.

As an intern you will learn what goes into driving revenue and attendance at D.C. United home matches while also participating as a member of the game day sales operations team.  Support will be provided to premium, season sales, group sales, membership services and events teams.

Goals:

·         Show initiative to assist Managers and Account Executives of the D.C. United sales department

·         Show initiative to create new revenue generating sales programs

·         Assist in the daily operations of the D.C. United sales department

·         Assist in the daily operations of the D.C. United sales department

Work Plan:

  • Participate in live sales training sessions
  • Support the department by attending non-matchday events to drive awareness and new leads for the club
  • Support the sakes/service staff with prospect list compilation and database entry
  • Support in the design and execution of Season Ticket Member and prospecting events
  • Support sales campaigns through outbound phone calls and follow up with prospects
  • Develop a presentation on new revenue generation and/or fan experience ideas

    Intern - Academy Operations - D.C. United (Washington, DC)

    The Academy Operations Internship  is a part time, seasonal position, working all D.C. United Academy matches during the U.S. Soccer Developmental Academy Season.


    The Event Operations staff will work closely with the Academy Director, Academy Manager and Coordinator in the logistical set-up and tear down of academy matches.  Candidates must be available to work flexible hours including evenings, weeekends, and holidays.  The U.S. Soccer Developmental Academy season runs from September  – December candidates must able to commit to the Fall Season for at least 90% of games.  All D.C.     North Texas Soccer Tour: FC Dallas and North Texas State Soccer Association in conjunction with a few key sponsors have developed a mobile marketing tour that travels throughout DFW and north Texas area. We are currently looking for a students interested in participating in the execution of the tour. The tour visits approximately 50-60 events per calendar year which include soccer tournaments, league play, and various sponsor events. The tour consists of a company SUV that pulls a 24-foot trailer, a 10x10 tent and interactive inflatables. The North Texas Soccer Tour Internship will serve as an integral part of the FC Dallas strategic marketing efforts.

    Members of this team will act as ambassadors for FC Dallas interacting with fans during scheduled 17 home games and at various special events including (but not limited to); player appearances, community events, media functions, nightlife appearances, and team driven events in the DFW area.


    Team members will be expected to have a dynamic personality with the ability to engage the target audience in lively conversation and be able to sell FC Dallas tickets and merchandise. Event day logistics include locker room set-up, table and chair set-up, and pre-game operations. This internship is designed to give students an overall view of the daily operations of a Major League Soccer Stadium and Complex that is in use over 300 days a year.

    Job Duties include:

    • Assist the Stadium Operations Department with game day operations to include set up, tear down and event management.
    • Assist with coordination among other departments to ensure that all day of game set-up, giveaways, signage, etc. are met effectively.

    Team Administration: The purpose of this internship is to assist the Director of Soccer Operations & Equipment Managers with the daily duties involved with the Major League Soccer team FC Dallas and their U-18 & U-16 Academy Teams.

    Duties:

    • Perform necessary & required Laundry duties pertinent to the Professional Program, Academy Teams, Coaches, & Staff needs (Gear, Uniforms, towels etc.)
    • Ensure all necessary & required equipment is available for all FCD Home and Away Games for the 1st Team, Reserves and Academy sides
    • Ensure that all MLS requirements & protocols are followed for all games that FCD Teams are involved
    • Assist the Equipment managers with ordering, inventorying, preparation, & distribution of all equipment for the FCD Professional & Academy Programs, coaches & staff.
    • Assist the Equipment managers in the necessary & timely preparation for all professional team practices (Field & Equipment)
    • Assisting with the set-up of daily team practice – daily distribution of practice gear for 28 players, 5 Coaches, 4 staff members and all guest players
    • Assisting with the logistics of team travel – Visa requests, team itineraries, per diem request and distribution, in-city transportation, follow-up communication with travel agents and hotels.
    • Receiving, cataloging and distribution of all new incoming team gear. Preserving and cataloging all archived team gear.

    The Sports Nutrition intern will take an active role in all phases of the Sports Nutrition Program and will assist the Sports Dietitian in completing all daily functions.  He or she is expected to act in a professional manner at all times while representing the LA Galaxy.  This position will require commitment to a schedule ranging from 7:00 am- 1:00 pm Monday through Saturday equating to 25 hours a week, paid hourly based on the state minimum wage.  The hours and days worked will vary weekly depending on the teams’ schedules.  This position will last from August 26th to the end of the 2016 season (~ early December).

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    ·         Assist the Sports Dietitian and other medical staff with day to day set up duties.

    ·         Maintain Herbalife lounge and Second Team lounge: Keep lounges clean, keep fridges and product stocked, assist the Sports Dietitian with product inventory, etc.

    ·         Set up and break down all pre-training/pre-game and post-training/post-match hydration and supplement necessities.

    ·         Assist the Sports Dietitian in conducting 1 on 1 nutrition consultations with players from all teams.

    ·         Assist the Sports Dietitian with data monitoring (hydration, body fat, DXA scans, OmegaWave).

    ·         Prepare all post-training and post-match protein shakes.

    ·         Complete mini projects as assigned by the Sports Dietitian.

    ·         Assist LA Galaxy athletic trainers and strength and conditioning coach as needed.

    POSITION OVERVIEW:

    The Ticket Sales Intern is responsible for supporting the Ticketing Department with all facets of ticket sales and customer service.  The position will gain experience in NYCFC’s front office as well as at Yankee Stadium on game days.  This is a six-month, credit based internship position.

    PRIMARY DUTIES:

    • Assist with the planning and execution of group events at home games
    • Assist with the servicing and sale of any group tickets, birthday party packages, programs and promotional ticket packages
    • Assist the ticket sales staff to develop and implement game day events and experiences
    • Assist with research and tracking efforts to determine season ticket holder concerns and interest, particularly game day atmosphere

    PROGRAM OVERVIEW:

    The Event Marketing Internship is designed to provide experience to students pursuing a career in event marketing and event planning. Interns focus on providing event marketing support for all New York Red Bulls events, and match-day activations  at Red Bull Arena. Event Marketing Interns learn about managing event staff and event planning timelines. Interns report directly to the Event Marketing Coordinator, but also interact regularly with the entire events team in the marketing department. During the internship they are involved in all event preparation, staffing, venue selection, promotional  planning, and special marketing projects for New York Red Bulls events.

    Schedules are built around the New York Red Bulls marketing department event calendar for MLS match days, sales and fan services events, Red Bulls Training Programs events, offsite marketing activations, partnership event series, and grassroots activations. These events include but are not limited to: Youth Soccer Festivals, Club Partner Summits, Viewing Parties, Open Houses, Red Membership Benefit Events, Private Practices, Community Partner Events, Owned Participatory Events, Partnership Kickoffs, Soccer Tournament Activations and Fantasy Camps.

    In order to experience the full benefit of the Event Marketing Internship, including orientation weeks, the candidate should be fully available during one of the following terms:

    Fall Internships – Monday, August 22nd until Wednesday, December 21st

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    -           Coordinate with New York Red Bulls event team to ensure successful event planning and execution.

    Academy Intern - Fall 2016 - New York Red Bulls (Harrison, NJ)

    COMPANY INFORMATION:

    The New York Red Bulls are one of 20 teams in Major League Soccer (MLS). They are one of the ten charter clubs of MLS, having competed in the league since its founding in 1996.   They currently play their home matches at Red Bull Arena (RBA) in Harrison, New Jersey. RBA, a state-of-the-art 25,000-seat stadium, is widely regarded as the top soccer-specific stadium in North America. The club is owned by the Austrian beverage company Red Bull for which the team is named. The first team features 2014 MLS Golden Boot Winner Bradley Wright-Phillips, U.S. international Sacha Kljestan, and several players with USMNT experience.  The New York Red Bulls offer one of the nation's premier youth soccer development programs, from local soccer partnerships across New York and New Jersey to Regional Development Schools and the Red Bulls Academy teams. 

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    The purpose of this position is to assist the Academy administrator with events related to team travel, securing training facilities and scheduling of games and training sessions. Candidate will receive valuable experience related to operations of the New York Red Bulls Academy. THIS INTERNSHIP IS UNPAID AND FOR CREDIT ONLY. PROOF THAT YOU ARE RECEIVING CREDIT IS REQUIRED.

    Main responsibilities will include:

    · Researching and contacting companies related to team travel and lodging arrangements
    · Assisting with data related to field usage and facilities
    · Organizing documents associated with Academy player registration
    · Supporting Academy Administrator with tracking of game scores and scheduling
    · Handling of tryout applications via mail
    · Attendance at Academy games to assist with in-game responsibilities


    SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE , SKILL, AND ABILITY

    · Position is well-suited for candidates seeking to gain further experience in sports management and operations
    · Model candidate will possess interest and background within soccer
    · Must be well-organized.
    · Ability to handle and complete multiple tasks in a timely manner
    · Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
    · Must be able to work some evenings and weekends
    · Must have a driver’s license and reliable transportation

    POSITION DETAILS
    · Work week is 20-25 hours
